Adult Behavior Disorders

As children and teens have disorders that they are prone to so do adults. While children, teens and adults may have the same disorder, the symptoms, causes, and treatment may be different for each age group. It is important to get a proper diagnosis from a doctor so that the right treatment can be followed. Here you will find a list of some adult behavior disorders with an overview for each.

Adult ADHD/ADD – According to one study 4% to 6% of the U.S. Population suffers from ADHD. While there are three different categories of ADHD the media and the world have become familiar with the term ADD. It is important to remember that we are talking about the same things in general and only a doctor who specializes in these disorders can break it down for a patient.

While ADHD was once thought to be a childhood disorder we are now finding that one-half to two-thirds of children with ADHD will continue to have problems with the same disorder throughout their lifetime. The most important thing is for the adult to find a way to cope with the disorder and treat it as best as possible. Adult behavior disorders like ADHD can affect every aspect of an adults life.

There are a few key things that are evident in someone suffering from the adult behavior disorder ADHD.

  • They are easily distracted and may not be able to finish what they start as a result.
  • They are impulsive and give in easily to instant gratification.
  • They may be restless physically or mentally.
  • They may have an overabundance of energy.

We do know that ADHD is not caused by something that your parents, peers or teachers did to you during childhood. We do know that there is evidence that it runs in families.

To treat ADHD as an adult behavior disorder, a doctor may put you on medication and will possibly ask you to go through some behavioral therapy.
